Webinar Review: “Educational Preparation for Certification: Many Paths to the Same Goal” by Angela Packer McGhie, CG

This week I watched the webinar, “Educational Preparation for Certification: Many Paths to the Same Goal” by Angela Packer McGhie, CG.  The webinar was given on October 18th.  This is a really good presentation highlighting some of the best resources, webinars and articles and such, to learn about doing genealogy to the high standards laid out by the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG).

Some of the suggested resources are National Genealogical Society Quarterly (NGSQ) articles, some are from the BCG website, another is from the FamilySearch learning center, and a number of other locations.  Also discussed are the genealogy learning institutes and the ProGen and other study groups.  Of course, lots of other articles and other types of resources not on this list are great, too.  But these are some of the best resources to check out.

The presentation mentioned the process of becoming certified by the BCG.  If you are interested in pursuing certification, I would be sure to check out this presentation.  Each of the parts of the certification application are mentioned along with good resources relevant to that step.  Near the end the presenter shows the education enrichment activities taken by a group of certified genealogists.

The syllabus for the webinar is free here.  Seeing the webinar requires purchase of a digital download or a membership at familytreewebinars.com.  The site offers monthly memberships.  The webinar is here.  I would start with the free syllabus first.  This one is really detailed.
